CAPTION: A whopping R273 143.60 was raised at the Rotary Clubs of Newlands and Table Bay’s 21st annual wine auction. The money raised at the glamorous gala evening has been donated to the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), who will be using the funds towards a rescue vehicle for their Station 10 in Simon’s Town. Rotarian Richard Burnett (pictured above left) from the Rotary Club of Newlands, welcomed the guests and opened the proceedings. “The annual wine auction has become quite an institution to raise much-needed funds for the NSRI,” says Burnett. “Being part of this tremendously successful initiative aligns very well with our core value of service above self,” adds Burnett.
“We are incredibly grateful for the wonderful support shown by the Rotary Clubs of Newlands and Table Bay for the last 21 years,” says Krista Lazzari, NSRI Fundraiser. “Thanks to the generous donations, sponsorships and money raised through these auctions, we have been able to kit out a number of our rescue stations with new vehicles, rescue craft and other much-needed rescue equipment,” adds Lazzari.
The 172 guests attending the glamorous event enjoyed table wines sponsored by Peter Bacon and supplied by Usana Wines. Not only were there various fantastic wine lots up for auction, but other items including a catered cruise for 12 people on luxury yacht Princess Emma, a two-night stay in the Presidential Suite of the Table Bay Hotel, a nine-litre bottle of Klein Constantia wine and a training session with the Simon’s Town NSRI crew for two people; definitely something for everyone!
“A big thank you to the organising committees from the Rotary Clubs of Newlands and Table Bay, the Wine Cellar, all the wine estates who contributed to the auction, our sponsors Mitsubishi Motors SA and Spar Tops, and of course our generous guests,’ concludes Lazzari.
