The Rotary Club of Newlands has helped to charter the first Rotary E-Club in the Western Cape. At a gala dinner hosted at the Cape Town Society for the Blind (CTSB) earlier this month, the Rotary E-Club of Greater Cape Town for District 9350 was officially launched. Even though District 9350 includes, Western Cape, Namibia and Angola, there were even participants from as far afield as New York, The Netherlands and the United Kingdome that linked up via online meeting platform, Zoom, for the occasion.
“We are living in a digital world and it is important that Rotary moves with the times,” said Graham Finlayson, Rotary Club of Newlands President. “There are many people who would like to become part of Rotary, however, due to work commitments aren’t always able to physically attend the meetings. Through this E-Club, we believe we are casting our net wider to give more people an opportunity to become part of a web-based Rotary club. It also aims to reduce boundaries and be even more inclusive,” adds Finlayson.
“The purpose of the E-Club is to connect, inform, inspire, and involve different members of society who are eager to embrace Rotary’s ethos of ‘Service Above Self’,” says, Peter Dekker, New president of Rotary’s E-Club of Greater Cape Town.
“We are very excited about this new e-chapter for Rotary,” adds Dekker.
The E-Club meetings will take place on every second Wednesday of the month at 19:00 and every fourth Thursday of the month at 12:30. Members and guests can link up by clicking the link on the website: The E-Club will run in the same manner as a traditional Rotary meeting, the only difference is that members will be joining the meeting via online meeting platform Zoom.
