26 MARCH 2018
Welcome to the first revamped edition of the Howzat! The aim of the redesign was to create a weekly update that provided the latest project news and meeting information while making it a less time-consuming task for the Howzat Editor. We hope that you enjoy it and know that suggestions for improvement are always welcome.

April is Maternal and Child Health Month and we are shining the spotlight on one of our community projects. The Zoe Project runs a number of programmes from within the resource-constrained Retreat and Hanover Park Maternity and Obstetrics Units. Their volunteers work alongside government medical staff to support women throughout pregnancy, childbirth and in pregnancy crisis situations.
The Zoe Project takes a holistic, hands-on approach to ensuring that these women and babies are supported, loved and empowered during and post-pregnancy. One of the services they provide are Mom and Baby Packs: a set of basic items much needed by new moms and their little ones.

The Rotary Club of Newlands is collecting enough items to make up 30 of each of these packs during the month of April. Below is a list of items needed which you are welcome to bring along to meetings on 9 April, 16 April and 23 April. Please bring the items separately and unwrapped.
Items Needed for Mom PacksToothbrush, toothpaste, panties (medium size), deodorant
Items Needed for Mom Packs: Baby grows (newborn or 0-3mths), Vests (newborn or 0-3mths), baby wash, bum cream, baby lotion (no earbuds, powder, dummies or soap please)

Rotarians and Rotary Anns from Table Bay, Newlands and Hermanus gathered under the warm Hermanus sun to hand over a rescue vehicle to NSRI Station 17 Hermanus.

The Herman's NSRI's relationship with Rotary goes back a long way.  In fact, this year, NSRI Hermanus celebrates 40 years and their first rescue boat “Florence Carter” was sponsored by Rotary.

Since the beginning of our partnership, Rotary has supported Sea Rescue in sponsoring six rescue boats, water safety education in schools, a number of asset maintenance projects. This rescue vehicle is the fourth one donated by Rotary thanks to funds raised by the annual Rotary Wine Aunction.

If you cannot do your job on the day, please find someone who can do it instead of you, then contact the Sergeant on the day to update the roster. Please don't leave this until the Monday afternoon – let the Sergeant know in advance if you have not been able to arrange a swap. If you are going to be away for particular future meetings let Shelley Finch know.

Do not be dismayed by the brokenness of the world.
All things break. And all things can be mended.
Not with time, as they say, but with intention.
So go. Love intentionally, extravagantly, unconditionally.
The broken world waits in darkness for the light that is you.
